Third-Party Psychoeducational Consultations

I spent four years practicing within Northwestern’s Center for Fertility and Reproductive medicine as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Psychiatry at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. I supported many individuals and couples during the complex emotional journey of infertility, the grief of reproductive loss, fertility preservation, the loss of fertility due to medical treatments like chemotherapy, and families considering using collaborative reproduction using donor egg, donor sperm or gestational surrogacy. I am deeply committed to providing specialized support for all types of families.

Intended Parent Consultations:

These psychoeducational consultations last approximately 50 to 60 minutes and differ from traditional therapy sessions by focusing on understanding the emotional aspects, the different steps of the process of donor egg, sperm and embryos and considerations for you and your future family. Drawing from research and perspectives within donor-conceived adult communities, we will discuss more immediate concerns including, your feelings regarding the process, donor evaluations and their motivations, choosing a donor and coping with treatment. We will also consider longer-term issues such as disclosure strategies for children and others, lack of anonymity, and how donor-conceived individuals may feel about their conception, adjust over their lifespan and what supports they may need.
